"The puppy whisperer", "The grounds keeper"

Yukon

Okay... those aren't his REAL names!  Yukon is our unregistered rescue, so we had to make up an official name to make him feel important.  It's really true, though!  This boy is hilarious to watch with the pups.  He always seems to be just the right mix of playful and gentle.  We adopted Yukon from our local Adopt-a-pet in March of 2006.  We had been wanting another Sibe, and I saw his picture up on the bulletin board at our local Wal-Mart.  We went to go look at him, and the rest is history!  We guessed his age at around 5-6 months, and our vet concurred.  He was found wandering in the country for who knows how long.  We don't know much about his past, but what we do know is disturbing.  When we first met him, he had obviously survived a brutal attack from another dog.  By the age of the scars, it happened when he was just a pup.  One of his ears had a huge scar that went almost the whole way across.  He is lucky he didn't lose his whole ear.  He also had many scars on his face.  The plot thickened when I picked him up from getting neutered.  The vet approached me and said "You're never gonna believe what I found."  She held out her hand, and there in her palm was shotgun shot.  She said she had found it in his scrotum when she had gone in to do surgery.  Our new baby had been shot!  Close to tears, I thanked God that he had brought us this boy, and that we could be for him what he had lacked.  A good home with unconditional love from us.  With good nutrition, the scars have faded on his face, and you have to go looking for the scar on his ear to notice it.  The ear has straightened out nicely.  Even though he likes to 'transplant' our aspens every now and then, we have never regretted taking him home with us!
